Amsterdam startled by 10,000 malaria mosquitoes
On April 25, World Malaria Day, Arjan Erkel got everyone's attention when he unveiled an advertising display at Koningsplein in Amsterdam filled with 10,000 malaria mosquitoes. But by the time the malaria mosquitoes provided by Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre had reached Amsterdam, they were all dead, apparently as a result of the print ink on the poster. Arjan nonchalantly observed that it would be nice if the mosquitoes in Africa died as easily.
The unveiling got a lot of media attention and the action not only caused a lot of commotion, it also brought in quite a few donations, for which we are grateful. In short: a successful action!

Mosquitoes suck! Malaria sucks, too!
Malaria No More! Netherlands recently started working with a popular Hyves group, Muggen zijn kut! (mosquitoes suck), which has more than 203,000 mosquito-hating members. Under the motto Mosquitoes suck! Malaria sucks, too! we'll be asking the group to support us in a number of different ways.
We strongly believe that malaria is still a highly underestimated killer. A special website and a webstore have been developed where you can buy a cool t-shirt.

Support and activities are increasing
In recent months, a number of organizations have carried out successful sponsor campaigns for Malaria No More under their own banner or that of Wilde Ganzen. Since February 2010, we've been receiving support for our project in Cameroon from Impulsis and more and more people are supporting the charity with regular monthly donations. KLM's PR for our project in Tanzania is drawing international attention to our work and Team Tana Netting, which is riding in the Oranje Trophy from Amsterdam to Cairo and visited our project in Kenya, is getting a lot of international publicity.
Continuous attention and support are necessary because malaria is still not under control, and is very far from eradication.

Race Against the Clock at Circuit Park Zandvoort
The campaign 'Race Against the Clock, the Malaria No More Challenge', which offers special programmes to schools for pupils aged 9 to 12 was recently opened at Circuit Park Zandvoort. On Friday 22 May, the first 100 pupils of an elementary school in Heemstede visited the exposition. They were given a tour of the circuit and attended the rap workshop. On Whit Monday, Jacques Sassen officially started the campaign by handing over a cheque to Arjan Erkel on behalf of business sponsor Hama. Read more...
There are still a number of race weekends on which you and your students can visit the expositions or your company can get exposure by exhibiting. Or you can sit with a real driver in the Seat Race Against the Clock race car on 13 June 2010.
