Vote Thijs Verheul into the United Nations

Foto-Thijs.jpgThijs Verheul is one of six semi-finalists competing to become the UN's new youth delegate. The winner will be announced on 24 October 2010 and will be given the opportunity to address the United Nations General Assembly for seven minutes.

A UN youth delegate works on UN-related issues. International collaboration, human rights, the food crisis and new energy are a few of the subjects Thijs will be dealing with. He will gather input for these issues from youths across the Netherlands by giving lectures and workshops at schools. He will also speak during UN simulations and organize happenings at festivals. These actions will give him insight into what is important to youths and enable him to represent your interests in the Netherlands and at the United Nations.

AIDS, malaria and TB

Thijs will focus on the global fight against diseases such as AIDS/HIV, malaria and TB, Millennium Development Goal 6. Every day, 3,000 children die of malaria. That means two every minute ... Today, some 33 million people are infected with HIV ... Both diseases are spreading quickly, although they could be prevented! It is time that youths join forces to improve education, prevention and the distribution of medicines.
