13/07/2011 | Epidemiologist at UMC St Radboud receives one million dollars to tackle malaria
Teun Bousema of UMC St Radboud received one million dollars from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The money will be used to study a new way of tackling malaria, namely by carefully selecting regional human ‘malaria hotspots’ and treating them. If this method proves successful, the world will have a new weapon to fight malaria.

26/04/2010 | 10,000 dead malaria mosquitoes in Amsterdam
On Sunday 25 April, World Malaria Day, Arjan Erkel, director of Malaria No More! Netherlands, unveiled an advertising column filled with 10,000 malaria mosquitoes on Koningsplein in Amsterdam. The mosquitoes, none of which were infected with the malaria parasite, unfortunately fell victim to the print ink on the poster and died before the glass display was unveiled.

On 25 April, an advertising display will be filled with ten thousand living malaria mosquitoes and placed on Koningsplein in Amsterdam for World Malaria Day. One million children die of malaria every year. Arjan Erkel of Malaria No More! hopes that filling the display with mosquitoes will raise the public's awareness of malaria.
19/04/2010 | Fashion raises thousands of euros to help eradicate malaria
Soroptimist club Merwekring's annual clothes sale raised a total amount of €6,000. Hundreds of women and a few men came to watch models show second-hand clothes. There was a queue outside De Nieuwe Doelen in Gorinchem at 7 p.m. already! On Sunday, the Soroptimists sorted, ironed and price-tagged all of the clothes. Some of the clothes were held back for Hungary; the rest were shown and sold on Monday evening.

Today, drivers Liz de Jong and Laura Bos of Team Tana Netting Against Malaria started their trip to Cape Town (South-Africa) as one of the 23 teams in the Orange Trophy rally. The Orange Trophy, an overland rally from Amsterdam to Cape Town, will over the next 12 weeks make its way to the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

This evening, the proceeds from the Serious Request 'Stop malaria - Play the music' campaign were announced: a record €7,113,447. Over €7 million! This is a fantastic contribution to the fight against malaria! Minister Koenders handed over a cheque on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

After two days of campaigning, Serious Request announced how much had been collected so far: DJs Giel Beelen, Gerard Ekdom and Annemieke Schollaardt had raked in €428,629. There were a lot of requests, collection activities, auctions of items owned by famous Dutch people, and Sander and Filemon who did odd jobs.

At 7 p.m., Princess Máxima locked the door of the Glass House that she had opened for Serious Request, which was held for the sixth time, this year at the market square in Groningen. Serious Request is radio 3FM's annual charity campaign. DJs spend six days in a glass house without food, play requests for a fee and people can give the money they collect running their own campaigns to the DJs – and it all goes to the cause being promoted. This year's cause was malaria.

Zaterdag 21 november jl. vond op Landal Rabbit Hill in Nieuw-Milligen de jaarlijkse opruimactie plaats. Samen met zes vrijwilligers van Malaria No More! Nederland zorgden de mannen van Lions OverHolland ervoor dat het buitenmeubilair netjes aan kant ging, verwijderden ze zwerfvuil van het gehele terrein en bliezen ze bladeren van de paden.

De Thaise producent van muskietennetten Tana Netting heeft 5.000 geïmpregneerde netten ter waarde van $ 25.000 aan AMREF gedoneerd. AMREF heeft de muskietennetten gedistribueerd in Oeganda, waar jaarlijks tussen 70.000 en 100.000 mensen sterven als gevolg van malaria. Met name zwangere vrouwen, mensen met hiv/aids en jonge kinderen zijn kwetsbaar voor de ziekte.

21 oktober was Malaria No More! Nederland met pratende buiken aanwezig bij de Winkel van Sinkel in Utrecht waar de Millenniumtour2009 plaatsvond rondom millenniumdoelstelling 5: 'Verbeteren van gezondheid van zwangere vrouwen'. Winkelend publiek en terrasbezoekers van de Winkel van Sinkel luisterden naar het verhaal van het ongeboren kind uit de buik van de moeder.

Op 16, 21 en 22 oktober kun je tijdens de Millenniumtour2009 luisteren naar baby's in de buik van hun zwangere moeders. De moeders wonen in een malariagebied en lopen een verhoogd risico om malaria op te lopen met alle gevolgen van dien, niet alleen voor de vrouwen maar ook voor de baby's. De baby's realiseren zich dat maar er zijn gelukkig manieren om zwangere vrouwen preventief te beschermen tegen malaria.

Rotterdam als European Youth Capital 2009 organiseerde speciaal voor jongeren op 4 september 2009 de Wereldhavendagen voor jongeren. Joseph Makokha zegt jullie gedag. Het gaat goed met hem. Hij slaapt onder de door Premier Balkenende ondertekende klamboe en is zo beschermd tegen de dodelijke steek van een malariamug.

De Pioneer Self Help Group heeft weloverwogen beslist welke familie de door Balkenende ondertekende klamboe krijgt. De klamboe gaat naar een familie die erg geleden heeft onder malaria. Vader Isaac Wanjira Nyongesa en moeder Janet Nambengere Wanjira hebben twee van hun zes kinderen verloren aan deze ziekte, in de periode voordat de Pioneer Self Help Group het Fight Against Malaria project introduceerde.
29/05/2009 | Balkenendes klamboe in Shianda Kenia
De door Balkenende ondertekende klamboe is inmiddels aangekomen bij Enos Matangwe, coordinator van het Fight Against Malaria (FAM) project van de Pioneer Self Help Group Bulechia die in 2004 het succesvolle project introduceerde in de projectlocatie Munganga in de regio Shibinga (West Kenia). Als resultaat reduceerde de kindersterfte t.g.v. malaria met bijna 100% en het aantal gevallen van malaria nam met 90% af.

Op 24 april jl. zette premier Balkenende in het torentje zijn handtekening op een klamboe van Malaria No More! Nederland. Hij gaf daarmee aan de strijd tegen malaria te steunen.

In het kader van Wereld Malaria Dag op 25 april 2008, duikt deze projectie van de malariamug – hier op het Museumplein in Amsterdam - op tal van plaatsen onverwacht op om aandacht te vragen voor de bestrijding van één van ’s werelds dodelijkste ziekten.
17/11/2007 | Zero to Hero team racet mee in Amsterdam-Dakar rally
Al weken voorafgaand aan de start vanuit Amsterdam op 17 november 2007 is het team Zero to Hero bezig met de voorbereidingen voor hun 7.500 km lange tocht dwars door de woestijn van Afrika tot aan Dakar in Senegal waar ze klamboes zullen uitdelen.
