Together, we can stop malaria
From April 2009 - August 2010 Arjan Erkel was the director of Malaria No More! Netherlands and since September 2010 he is ambassador of the foundation. Malaria No More has the goal of making the world malaria-free by 2015.
'My freedom is very important to me. Especially after 607 days of captivity during which I was in no position to make choices. I often think about that line in one of Janis Joplin's songs: Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose. The flip side of freedom is that you are attached to nothing and no one. That doesn't work for me. I get a real kick out of investing my time and energy in a really good cause. I've seen a lot of people suffer from malaria unnecessarily. And to think that malaria is so easy to prevent!
Fortunately, the world is now ready to help prevent malaria. World leaders, famous actors, internationally acclaimed singers. They have all linked their name to malaria. People such as Ruud Lubbers, Rijkman Groenink, Herman Wijffels, Hafsat Abiola, Antony Burgmans, Jane Goodall and Rigoberta Menchu Tum are on MNM Netherlands's advisory committee.
This is why I believe in Malaria No More. Malaria can be stopped if we work together. Your help is badly needed. We hope we can count on you.'
